A couple of years ago I wrote about my fascination with the structures created when stitching or binding fabric using shibori methods, even without dyeing. I also experimented with stitching and binding felt and then shrinking it in the washing machine.
I had a hankering this week to revisit this to create more organic felt forms and textures, incorporating everything I’ve learnt about shibori and felting since then – which is quite a lot! 🙂 This is the result.
The shrinkage was considerable – as you can see from the photo below. The original resist was 35cm across; the final vessel is about 8cm across, excluding the protuberances!
